Muscat International Airport (MCT) is the main gateway to Oman and the base for the national carrier, Oman Air. The airport is directly connected with 55 destinations in 27 countries and is served by 29 international airlines. MCT handled 6.3 million passengers in 2011.
A new Muscat International Airport is currently under construction and will replace the existing one on completion in 2017. With a capacity of 12 million passengers annually, the new terminal building will have 29 boarding air bridges, 10 bus-boarding lounges, 30 remote aircraft stands, 86 check-in counters and 20 self-service kiosks counters, a second runway with a length of 4,000 meters (the original runway will also be extended to 4,000 meters) and a cargo terminal to handle 260,000 tons annually.
